Year Round Schooling?
Came across an article last night on the web (published yesterday in the Chicago Tribune), about some schools in Chicago that are moving to year-round schooling. I'm not particularly fond of the decision-making process that was used, where teachers are canvassed and then the principal ultimately decides, but found the article to speak openly and honestly about the pros and cons of such an enterprise. With time as such a tight commodity, people are clearly looking for options. Posted for reflection...

And...We're Off!
This blog will serve as a way to communicate my work as Vice President to you, my fellow colleagues.
First day on the job....I worked with a teacher at my school who will be taking over some of my responsibilities and classes next year, so that I can attend to the work of our association, while still teaching one class each morning so that I can remain connected to the work in schools.
I also did some work on the MCEA website. We're revamping the site to put more timely information on it, and over the course of the summer will get it ready for a fall "re-launch." Communication is one of the areas of focus for us as an organization and we'll be using a variety of products to inform and seek input as we approach the fall bargainning season.
Thank you very much for this opportunity to serve as VP.
